Description of the job

A vacancy for a Mass Properties Engineer has arisen within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Toulouse, France.

You will join the Mass Estimation and Control department:

  • Our main objective will be your development in a multidisciplinary, multi-skilled environment by providing you the best opportunity to influence and improve directly our products: The Aircraft (A/C) key performance indicator, which is weight!
  • Within your area of responsibility you will have interfaces to our Design Departments, Program Chief Engineering, Configuration Management, Risk Sharing Partner and Vendors.

Development Opportunities:

  • You will be able to develop specific skill in Powerplant (engine + nacelle) and Mechanical System installation for Mass Properties and have the opportunity to become a specialist. You will be also dedicated on Electrical System Installation (ESI) weight management for one A/C program.
  • Depending on your own strengths and development needs you will have the possibility to work in R&T topics, A/C studies, coordination of activities, planning, Big Data and digitalization. We will ensure that you will be able to develop multiskills by providing you opportunities to develop in Marketing or Customisation activities.
  • As part of a shared activity within the Toulouse team, you will have the opportunity to inspect and weigh customer A/C before their delivery, therefore to work on our final product.
Tasks & accountabilities

The principle responsibilities of the role can be summarized as follows:

  • Ensure the weight follow up of the Powerplant on two different A/C programs and of the ESI on one A/C programs. Have a close collaboration with the design and the vendors (i.e. Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney…).
  • Improve the weight situation of your component by ensuring the best visibility possible of the status and outlook weight to all stakeholders (Chief Engineer, Design Office, and Configuration Management).
  • Gaining detailed knowledge of what drives the weight of components under your responsibility; requirements, materials, production, maintenance, cost, sizing drivers and stress & design, with a close collaboration with our expert.
  • Participate to projects or activities in order to develop your multiskills (R&T, big data, marketing…).
  • Perform weight estimations in Early Phase and in Development, using a range of weight estimation techniques (scaling, statistics, physics based).

  • Engineering degree in Aerospace specialising in Aircraft Design or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong interest in Aircraft Design and Flight Physics.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Stress & Design.
  • Digital knowledge desirable.
  • Curious, pro-active with good communication skill.
  • Willing to learn and to share knowledge with others.
  • Advanced level in French and English.
