Description of the job

A vacancy for GALILEO Ground Systems Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse. You will join the «Navigation and Air Traffic Management» department (TESUN) in charge of the definition, development and validation of major ground systems related to navigation and ATM.

The European Commission (EC) and the European Space Agency (ESA) are jointly developing GALILEO, an independent satellite navigation system providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service under civilian control. The system will comprise the Galileo Space Segment, providing a constellation of satellites, complemented with the Galileo Ground Segment, providing system and satellite monitoring and control. The GALILEO 2 Generation (G2G) is the evolution of the current system, with improved performance and services to the users.

The department “Navigation and Air Traffic Management” is greatly involved in the G2G program, where it contributes to the ground segment engineering and development. In this context, Airbus Defence & Space is looking for a ground systems engineer, for the actual phase B and the next phase of the G2G program.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

Inside the G2G team, your main tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Bring technical expertise on GALILEO system performance, and PRS signals,
  • Support system requirements analysis.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of simulation tools and means.
  • Develop innovative concepts and algorithms.
  • Be responsible for costs, quality and planning of the activities.
  • Interaction with the customer and suppliers.

Inside the team, you will also contribute to the future navigation proposals, as well as:

  • Animation and coordination of technical network inside the division.
  • Represent Airbus towards International GNSS actors.
  • Bring GALILEO insight on other navigation and R&D projects of the department.

This role may involve frequent travels worldwide for business according to the projects and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to engineering degree level or equivalent.
  • Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of GNSS Systems (GPS, GALILEO or EGNOS).
  • Proven knowledge of PRS signal.
  • Proven knowledge of mission functional chains.
  • Knowledge of ground segment architecture and functionalities.
  • Knowledge of Matlab and other development language.
  • Proven experience in a pro-active problem solving role.
  • Interest for R&D and innovation.
  • Ability to analyse and solve complex project situations.
  • Ability to communicate on technical subject.
  • Autonomy and scientific rigor.
  • Team spirit.
  • Negotiation level of English and French.
